Focus Factor VS Alpha Brain: Which is better?
The difference between Focus Factor and Alpha Brain are significant. Focus Factor has over 40 ingredients in their brain supplement, and Alpha Brain has just over 10 to support brain function.
To learn more about Focus Factor, we suggest you read our full Focus Factor review, however if you just want to know how these two nootropics / brain supplements compare to one another, read on.
Focus Factor VS Alpha Brain: The Ingredients
As we’ve mentioned, both the ingredients in Alpha Brain and Focus Factor are entirely different – and we have to say, neither are that impressive.
Before we get down to specifics, both supplements contain proprietary blends. Proprietary blends are when a supplement manufacturer chooses to hide the individual ingredients in their supplement under one larger dosage.
This means you don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting or how effective it may be overall. It’s an old-school tactic and both brands are doing it.
Now let’s get into some specifics…
Focus Factor’s Ingredients VS Alpha Brain
Focus Factor has over 40 ingredients in their supplement. Over 40. Considering that this is spread over a blend of 602 mg – we can’t imagine you’re getting much benefit at all from any of the ingredients.
That said, there are a few that we like in there; phosphatidylserine, bacopa (as Bacopin), L-Tyrosine, there are a few winners – but given the sheer spread of this blend, you’re unlikely to get any actual benefit from them here in this brain supplement.
Without knowing the that actual individual dosages in this blend, we’re unlikely to know which ingredients will work in Focus Factor and which won’t.
One thing’s for sure – this won’t stop Focus Factor touting the benefits of each individual ingredient suggesting that it is delivering an adequate dose to deliver those results.
Alpha Brain’s Ingredients VS Focus Factor
Alpha Brain doesn’t have the best ingredient profile that we’ve seen in a brain supplement – but compared to Focus Factor it looks like a saint.
There are some proprietary blends in here, but there is no more than three ingredients to a single blend. That alone tells us that we’re going to have better dosed ingredients than Focus Factor.
And again, there’s nice choices in here; L-Tyrosine, L-Theanine, Phosphatidylserine, Bacopa – at least 4 that we know are great choices in a brain supplement.
We would be harsher on Alpha Brain for having these in proprietary blends, but it just looks so much better compared to Focus Factor in this set up.
Focus Factor VS Alpha Brain: Who has better ingredients?
Alpha Brain. Focus Factor has too many that we do not know the dosages of.
It’s highly suggested that Focus Factor is under-dosed, and although Alpha Brain does does use the same tactic with proprietary blends, it does not do it to nearly the same extent. Alpha Brain will hide the dosages of 3 ingredients under a larger value – Focus Factor will do it with 40.
It’s unnoticeable to a new customer, but to a seasonsed biohacker it’s unthinkable.
Alpha Brain VS Focus Factor: The Side Effects
Both Focus Factor and Alpha Brain have a risk of causing side effects with their ingredients profile as they both contain Huperzine A.
Huperzine A is a nootropic which can help inhibit the enzyme that breaks down the acetylcholine in your brain. In doing so, you get a higher level of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which can help boost your overall memory, cognition and focus.
A safe amount of Huperzine is around 125 mcg – Alpha Brain contains 400 mcg. This could lead to problems such as:
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Brain Fog
- Confusion
- Poor Focus
- General Drop in Cognitive Performance
And more – it’s definitely a risky choice for sure.
Whereas with Focus Factor, we have absolutely no idea how much of each ingredient there in their product – so we don’t know how much of a risk you’re taking with the Huperzine A.
Not only that Focus Factor contains DMAE which is has been seen to cause birth defects in animals – and may scale up to humans, but more testing needs to be done to prove this isn’t the case.
Focus Factor VS Alpha Brain: Which is safer?
Alpha Brain. Alpha Brain only gives you the risk of the Huperzine A, Focus Factor has the Huperzine A, DMAE and 38 or more other ingredients to worry about.
Focus Factor VS Alpha Brain: The Price
Cut and dry answers here folks; Focus Factor Original is $21.99 for a single bottle and Alpha Brain is $79.95.
Focus Factor is clearly cheaper – but if you’ve read what we’ve had to say above, you’ll know why.
That said, even for the ingredient profile, Alpha Brain is still exceptionally expensive, there are better options out there on the market at more competitive prices.
Alpha Brain VS Focus Factor: The Results
As you can see, both of these nootropics have their flaws, but we have to give it to Alpha Brain.
It may be the most expensive, but it has less risk for side effects and what seems like better dosed ingredients. It also has more of the ingredients we know work for brain boosting compared to the blast of seemingly random choices selected by Focus Factor.
