How long does Alpha Brain take to start working?
Alpha Brain by Onnit typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour to start working. After that you can start to experience the cognitive benefits of this nootropic and use it to be more productive throughout the day.
Ideally, the best time to take a nootropic like Alpha Brain is as soon as you walk into work. The short time it takes to kick in can give you time to plan out your day, before it activates and you can begin working at a higher capacity.
I typically do this with most nootropic stacks I take, the grace period before it works is always good for planning the direction you want to go in before letting the nootropics take over and executing it at full force.
How long do you have to take Alpha Brain to get the full effects to last?
Alpha Brain is suggested to take 6 weeks before you notice any significant improvement in verbal memory, executive function and general cognition.
This information comes from a study that performed into Alpha Brain and it’s effects on adults aged 18 – 35 versus adults of the same age group who took a placebo.
Although this does seem promising for Alpha Brain and how long it can last when taken regularly, this study was funded by Onnit Labs in Austin Texas. Although the supplement editors have declared “no competing interests” they have a lot to gain from this study looking promising.
We cannot say that any information may have been exaggerated or tampered with, but we would like to say Onnit Labs has a lot to gain from Alpha Brain doing well in a study that they funded.
Can you last on Alpha Brain long term?
Although Alpha Brain has been used for 6 weeks in that study, and apparently good results were seen, we would advise using it daily for that length of time.
We put this down to the product’s high level of Huperzine A. Huperzine A inhibits the enzyme in your brain that breaks down your levels of acetylcholine – a neurotransmitter.
Without having this enzyme to break it all down, you levels of acetylcholine increase dramatically. This can be good for focus, cognition, brain function etc. However, it should be noticed that the build up of acetylcholine can lead to issues.
Normally, it’s recommended that for the benefits you take 125 mcg of Huperzine – Alpha Brain delivers 400 mcg. That may do more harm than good and lead to a build up in acetylcholine which may cause:
- Brain Fog
- Fatigue
- Confusion
- Lack of Focus
- Lack of Concentration
- Mood Imbalance
- Lowered Cognition
In our opinion, we would recommend cycling off Alpha Brain for at least a week every month to keep your acetylcholine levels regulated to a point that they won’t cause side effects.
So how long does Alpha Brain last after you take it?
Alpha Brain lasts approximately two to four hours after you take it. Alpha Brain typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour to kick in, and it is suggested that if you take Alpha Brain for a full 6 weeks you notice the full cognitive benefit.
However, it is not a nootropic that we would recommend that you take long term. Due to the effects of Huperzine A on your brain’s acetylcholine levels, we suggest cycling off (stop taking) Alpha Brain for at least a week every month.
