Mind Lab VS Alpha Brain: Which is better?
Mind Lab Pro is believed to be better than Alpha Brain when it comes to working as a cognitive promoting nootropic. Alpha Brain by Onnit is more directed at athletes than those who are looking to improve their brain power.
In this review, we look a lot closer at the differences and similarities between these two nootropics to see which is most effective.

Mind Lab Pro VS Alpha Brain: Ingredients and Dosages
The main difference when it comes to the ingredients of Alpha Brain VS Mind Lab Pro are proprietary blends.
A proprietary blend is when a supplement manufacturer chooses to hide the individual dosages of the ingredients in their product.
Instead they group numerous clusters of their ingredients together under larger doses. The drawback of this is that you don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting or how effective it is overall.
Mind Lab Pro does not do this. Alpha Brain absolutely does this.
Here are the ingredients in Alpha Brain:
- Vitamin B6 – 10 mg
- Onnit Flow Blend (L-Tyrosine, L-Theanine, Oat Straw, Phosphatidylserine) – 650 mg
- Cat’s Claw – 350 mg
- Onnit Focus Blend (Alpha GPC, Bacopa [100 mg], Huperzeria Serrata [Huperzine A, 400 mcg]) – 240 mg
- Onnit Fuel Blend (L-Leucine, Vinpocetine [5 mg], Pterostilbene) – 65 mg
Do you see how difficult that is to decipher how much of each individual ingredient you’re getting in Alpha Brain. Only half of what’s in each proprietary blend is revealed with an actual dosage, others are left completely listed.
Now, here’s Mind Lab Pro’s ingredients:
- Vitamin B6 – 2.5 mg
- Vitamin B9 – 100 mcg
- Vitamin B12 – 7.5 mcg
- Citicoline (as Cognizin) – 250 mg
- Bacopa Monnieri – 150 mg
- Lion’s Mane Mushroom – 500 mg
- Phosphatidylserine (as Sharp-PS) – 100 mg
- N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine – 175 mg
- L-Theanine (as Suntheanine) – 100 mg
- Rhodiola Rosea – 50 mg
- Maritime Pine Bark Extract – 75 mg
See how much easier that was? Everything is listed with their full dosages with no confusion.
What’s more, Alpha Brain has some ingredients which lack as much comprehensive clinical backing as Mind Lab Pro (which has all of it’s ingredients covered in some way or another).
For example there’s very little evidence of Cat’s Claw extract providing much when it comes to cognition. The L-Leucine is not a nootropic either, it’s mainly used for muscle growth, and the oat straw doesn’t have much support either.
It’s not a great formula all round.
Mind Lab Pro VS Alpha Brain: Side Effects
When it comes to the side effects and safety of both Mind Lab Pro and Alpha Brain, one is a lot quicker to size up than the other.
Mind Lab Pro is definitely a lot easier to judge as a safe nootropic with little to no side effects. We have not heard any reports of it causing any side effects, it’s all natural, and all the dosages are there on display to see if any of them track back to being troublesome.
Alpha Brain on the other hand is known to hold back on revealing it’s actual dosages as we have seen with the proprietary blend issues.
This makes it harder to identify some of the issues that could be linked to Alpha Brain. That said, there was one ingredient that really stood out to us in terms of causing potential side effects: the 400 mcg of Huperzine A.
Huperzine A can reduce your brain’s ability to remove acetylcholine. After a long period of time, this can add up and lead to a variety of side effects such as:
- Brain Fog
- Fatigue
- Loss of Concentration / Focus
- Headaches
- Confusion
And more. It’s not an ideal choice if you’re looking to boost your cognition by continuously taking something that has the potential to lower it.
Also both Mind Lab Pro and Alpha Brain contain Bacopa Monnieri. You shouldn’t run into any side effects with the doses in these products, but in high amounts this may cause bloating and general gastrointestinal distress.
Alpha Brain VS Mind Lab Pro: The Price
Despite everything we have covered in this article, due to the drawbacks with Alpha Brain, you would expect it to be cheaper.
It isn’t. When it comes to Mind Lab Pro VS Alpha Brain, Alpha Brain is the more expensive option.
- Mind Lab Pro costs: $65.00 per bottle.
- Alpha Brain costs: $79.95 per bottle.
That’s nearly $15.00 more for a product that you don’t even have the full dosages for.
Discounts are available on both. If you subscribe to Alpha Brain, they’ll charge you $67.96 a month for their product.
However, if you buy 4 boxes of Mind Lab Pro, the price goes right down to $48.75 a bottle. Considerably cheaper, you can get this offer right here: MindLabPro.com
Mind Lab Pro VS Alpha Brain: Which is better?
In our opinion as to what is the stronger nootropic, Mind Lab Pro or Alpha Brain, we have to give it to Mind Lab Pro.
Mind Lab Pro has clearer dosages, more ingredients with clinical backing. No fillers, and amazingly is somehow cheaper. Without a discount it is still cheaper than Alpha Brain with a subscription discount applied.
If you have to make a call, in terms for both your brain and your wallet – Mind Lab Pro appears to be the better option.
